Aspartic Acid.
Aspartic acid, also known as L-aspartate, is thought to
help promote a robust metabolism. Aspartic acid is also used to treat fatigue
and depression.
Aspartic acid (aspartate) gets its
reputation as a treatment for chronic fatigue and depression
from the crucial role it plays in generating cellular energy.
Aspartic acid moves the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine
dinucleotide (NADH) molecules from the main body of the cell to
its mitochondria, where it is used to generate adenosine
triphosphate (ATP), the fuel that powers all cellular activity.
In short, the more NADH a cell has, the
more chemical fuel it produces, and the more energy you have to
get through your day. Some studies have shown that aspartic acid
actually increases both stamina and endurance levels in
athletes. In addition, this amino acid helps transport minerals
needed to form healthy RNA and DNA to the cells, and strengthens
the immune system by promoting increased production of
immunoglobulins and antibodies (immune system proteins).
Aspartic acid keeps your mind sharp by
increasing concentrations of NADH in the brain, which is thought
to boost the production of neurotransmitters and chemicals
needed for normal mental functioning. It also removes excess
toxins from the cells, particularly ammonia, which is very
damaging to the brain and nervous system as well as the liver.
Aspartic acid is a non-essential amino
acid, which means that the body is able to manufacture its own
supply. It is also found in dairy, beef, poultry, sugar cane and
molasses. People with diets low in protein or people with eating
disorders or malnutrition may develop a deficiency in aspartic
acid as well as other amino acids. People with amino acid
deficiencies often experience extreme fatigue or depression.
Serious athletes may need to take an amino
acid supplement as well. Aspartic acid can be found in protein
supplements such as amino acid tablets and whey protein powder
drinks/bars, and are often marketed as energy boosters.
Amino acids promote the production of various neurotransmitters and enzymes critically needed in brain metabolism. Amino acids allow smooth, balanced cognition and fluid transition from thought to disciplined action. Aid in the reduction of stress, frustration and cognitive overload.
Amino acids are the building blocks of protein in the body, they are essential
for the synthesis of structural protein, enzymes and some hormones and
neurotransmitters. Amino acids also affect exercise metabolisms.
There are 20 different amino acids that are
needed by the body to create the various proteins needed for body
growth and repair. Of these 20, 11 are created by the body and the
remaining nine, which are called “essential amino acids,” cannot be produced by the
body. The nine essential amino acids therefore must come from diet. Histidine,
isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine,
tryptophan, and valine are essential amino acids. The nonessential
amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid,
carntitine, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline,
serine, and tyrosine. All 20 amino acids are necessary for health.
Below are some of the major functions amino
acids are involved in;
_ They empower vitamins and minerals to do their specific jobs correctly.
_ Some amino acids can pass through the blood-brain barrier which exists to
maintain the health of the brain, the brain’s chemistry and its processes.
_ Act as neurotransmitters or precursors; some are needed to send and receive
messages.
_ Aid in communication with nerve cells in other parts of the body.
Foods high in protein, such as meat and
poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products, are the richest dietary
sources of the essential amino acids.
We believe in the body's ability to heal itself when given the proper
nutrition. The highly specific formulas were developed around that logic to
offer solutions for many of life's health challenges.
